How to resolve “QuickBooks has stopped working” error?

Have your QuickBooks file has stopped responding suddenly? If Yes then you too are a victim of QuickBooks corruption like others. Sometime when you try to open your QuickBooks file, you receive below error message:


This error message may occur due to one of the following reasons:
  • If your QBWUSER.INI file got damaged.
  • Corruption in your hard disk.
  • If your Program file got damaged.
Try below methods to solve your problem:
Reboot your system: First reboot your system. Now open your QuickBooks file and check for error, if you are still getting error then try to disable your anti virus program temporarily. If disabling anti virus program also does not solve the issue then go to next method.

Delete EntitlementDataStore.ecml file:
QuickBooks also display above error message if the information entered at the time of installation of QuickBooks is incorrect or if the file containing that information is corrupted. In this case, it is important to delete the file to resolve the error. Follow below steps to delete EntitlementDataStore.ecml file:

  1. First close your QuickBooks file.
  2. Go to Windows Start button-> Run.
  3. In the Run dialog box copy and paste below information:
For QuickBooks 2013: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application        Data\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v8
For QuickBooks 2012: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v6.0
For QuickBooks 2011: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v6.0
For QuickBooks 2010: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit\Entitlement Client\v6.0

  4.  Now right click the  EntitlementDataStore.ecml file and delete.
If deleting EntitlementDataStore.ecml file does not solve your issue then go to next step.

Rename QBWUSE.INI file: Follow below steps to rename the QBWUSER>INI file:
  1. Go to Start-> My Computer-> Tools-> Folder Option.
  2. Go to View tab.
  3. In the Advanced Settings-> Hidden files and folders-> Show hidden files and folders and click Ok.
  4. Now go to My Computer-> C drive->C:\Documents and Settings\[Your user name]\Local Settings\Application Data\Intuit\QuickBooks [year]
  5. Right click the QBWUSER>INI file and rename it by replacing .INI with .INIold.
If you can open your QuickBooks file after renaming QBWUSER>INI or EntitlementDataStore.ecml file then try to open a sample file:
  1. Open your QuickBooks file and select Open a Sample File.
  2. Click Sample Product Based Business.
  3. If the sample file does not open then try next solution.

Install QuickBooks Component Repair tool: Download and install this tool on your system and then run it. After running this tool, reboot your system and again try to open your QuickBooks file.

Uninstall and reinstall your QuickBooks:
If none of the above solution works then uninstall and reinstall your QuickBooks file. It may solve the issue.

  1. after win 10 update qb pro 2011 stopped working (had to close error)after doing clean install even deleted reg entries then reinstalled same deal disabled internet connection and presto works disabled auto updates in qb then re-enabled internet works fine as long as u do not try to access internet with it (must be win10 security issue shutting it down)hope this helps probly could have just disabled internet from get go
