How to backup & restore MS Access 2010 database?

Today in world of computers, data is everything and if data is lost, everything is lost. So taking regular backup of data is very important. In case of disaster, you can easily restore your data from backup but if there is no backup available then you may have to use the time consuming and expensive recovery process. You should also plan your backups i.e. how frequently database must be backed up, how much copies of database you need to create etc. If data in your database changes frequently then you should backup your database regularly. In MS Access 2010, there is an inbuilt command for taking backup of database. So let's discuss how to backup MS Access 2010. 

How to backup MS Access database?
Following are the steps to create a backup:
  1. First open the database.
  2. Go to File-> Save & Publish.
  3. Click Advanced tab.
  4. In the Save Database As dialog box, click Backup database.
  5. In the Save As dialog box, you can change the name of default database if you want.
If your database has been split in two parts i.e. font-end and back-end then it is important to backup both database independently. Since back-end database contains most of your data so it is recommended to take regular backup of it. Each user has its own copy of front-end database so it is up to the user to backup database according to how frequently he changes it.

How to backup a back-end database?
When you try to backup your back-end database, make sure no body is using it. Following are the steps to backup a back-end database:
  1. Start Access, click Open.
  2. Select the back-end database that you want to backup.
  3. Click the arrow next to Open and select Open Exclusive.
  4. Now go to File-> Save & publish.
  5. In the Save Database As dialog box, click Backup database.
  6. In the Save As dialog box, you can change the name of default database if you want.

How to restore MS Access database?
You can restore database only if you have a valid backup copy of your database. While restoring database you basically replace a database file that is corrupted with a valid and up to date backup copy.
  1. Open Windows Explorer and select the backup copy of database.
  2. Now copy the backup copy to the location where you corrupted file is store.
