Resolving printing problems in MS Word

The most common issue with MS Word is that it creates problem in printing documents. Millions of people use Word for daily typing and printing task. So this issue is common with Word users but  you can solve it by little patience. It might be possible that your printer is the culprit not Word. Follow below step by step procedure to know who is actually responsible for error.

Check if Word is responsible for error: It might be possible that not only Word but other programs are also having issue in printing documents. To check this, open your notepad, type something and try to print the document. If the document print without any error that means problem is with Word only.

Check if problem is associated with a particular document:
One of the reason behind this issue is that a particular document is creating problem in printing. To check, open some other document and then try to print it. If you are able to print new Word document that means problem is associated with document and if you are not able to print this new document that means Word is the actual culprit. To resolve this issue, rename the Normal.dot file. Here is how:
  1. Go to Start-> Search-> All Files and Folders.
  2. Type Normal.dot
  3. Right click the Normal.dot and rename it.
If you still can't print your document then try below method.

Resolving printer driver issue: Since you are unable to print any Word document that means problem might be in your printer driver. To resolve the issue, reinstall your printer driver. Follow below steps:
  1. Close all the programs.
  2. Go to Start-> Control Panel-> View Devices and Printers.
  3. Right click on the default printer and delete.
Now reinstall the printer. Follow below steps to do that:
  1. Go to Start-> Control Panel-> View Devices and Printers.
  2. Click Add Printer in Printers dialog box.
If you are still facing printing issue then try next method.

Delete Registry key: The printing problem could also occurs due to corrupt Word data key in Windows Registry. To solve the issue you need to modify the registry key. It is recommended to backup registry before modify it because incorrect modification may cause serious issue. Follow below steps to delete the data key:
  1. Close all the programs.
  2. Go to Start-> Run.
  3. Type regedit and click Ok.
  4. Find the registry key:
    For Word 2010:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Word
    For Word 2007:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word
    For Word 2003:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word
  5. Click the Data Subkey.
  6. Go Edit-> Delete.
If you still have issue that means your document got corrupted and it is preventing you from printing the document. In this situation, opt for a third party Word Repair software to repair corrupt document.
